What Streetwise is
Streetwise maps Toronto Police Service calls for service — the public feed of what officers are being dispatched to — live and historically, by neighbourhood, with context about what's typical. It is an independent project, not affiliated with the Toronto Police Service or the City of Toronto.
Sources
Live calls come from the TPS public calls-for-service feed, polled continuously. History before mid-May 2026 comes from an archived public copy of the same feed. Neighbourhood boundaries and traffic cameras are City of Toronto Open Data.
How to read a call
A call for service is a dispatch, not a confirmed crime or an outcome. Status is inferred: a call shows Active while it appears on the live feed and flips to Cleared about 45 minutes after it stops appearing — the feed does not announce closures. Locations are the cross-streets the source publishes, sometimes revised while a call is live.
“Typical” comparisons
Baselines are computed per neighbourhood and hour of week over the trailing eight weeks, and comparisons are always against an area's own history. Streetwise deliberately never ranks neighbourhoods against each other on raw counts — calls measure police activity and reporting, not safety.

Categories, themes, and the call-type descriptions are Streetwise's own interpretation — no official public dictionary exists. Corrections are welcome.
